Can my CPA give me this information?

It would be extremely unlikely for you to get this type of information from your accountant or tax preparer. Here’s why.  When do most people see their CPA?  Tax time, you see them at their busiest time.  Their ability to do much tax planning is usually very limited, due to the fact that they are so busy just trying to get to the next person.  Now, how many of you get a call from your CPA in May or June, saying let’s get together and do a review and see how we can lower your taxes.  The vast majority simply record history, in other words, here is what happened last year, let’s make sure the right numbers go in the right boxes.

It’s virtually impossible for any professional to be able to advise you on every possible area in the tax code. There’s just too much information. Most tax preparers simply are not in a position to be able to advise you on this very specialized area of the tax code. Now don’t get us wrong, there are some really good CPAs who really do tax planning.  However, the vast majority simply record history.
